iPS cells are moons away from anything except test tubes. hESC used properly do not form teratomas, i.e., tumors. The hESC are not differentiated to “final tissue”; they are sent down the road to final differentiation – they are progenitor cells when injected. The business deals he’s done re hESC? You betcha, he’s done the research, he has the findings, he has the formerly paralyzed rats who have functional recovery.

Gosh, toopermission, I sure wish you didn’t find the need to be so rude. ESC does not equal iPS. They may, over time, but certainly not yet.

That’s incorrect. iPS’s are now produced without pasting genes into the genome.So there is absolutely no fear of cancer & or rejection.As far as I am aware hESC’s do produce tumors.Plz explain why you believe they don’t.

iPS made without cancer issue and already used to ‘cure’ sickle cell in mice. By not putting embryonic at same level of criticism (ex. they form tumors, too – or must be differentiated to final tissue, resulting in rejection) Kierstead shows his bias. (Perhaps it’s the business deals he’s done RE embryonic stem cells that has something to do with it.)

I still dont see how the problem of allogeneic rejection will be solved by embryonic stem cells. Also the problem of teratomas.I do agree with the importance of the dedifferentiated skin cell breakthrough
